Black Web 2.0: 7 URL Shorteners and Why You Might Use Them

  • BlackAdTalk - Webmaster Forum · 8 months ago
Good article you have here brother... As for TinyUrl, many ISP's (aka... email providers) now block them, as to much spamming is going on... Yes they are king, but to many black hat webmasters are using their service...

    As for me, I use http://123url.us & http://shorturl.com

Piggybacking off of BlackAdTalk, a counter perspective to url shorteners. I tend to lean towards the eventual misuse of them (as that is how the internet usually goes), but I guess we'll see.

Think of the abuse of Flash, pop-ups, and animated gifs by spammers now a days.

What do you all think of Digg as a URL Shortener?

How do one get in contact with you?

I don't like digg as a URL shortener. It adds too much graft to the shared link.

Great post and analysis - wondering which you will use now after "although I may be exploring other options after this post."

Do you have a new favorite?

Well, I was thinking of giving Adjix another try simply to see if it actually generates any income. Main thing for me, though...is usability. So far, bit.ly is just much easier to integrate into my work flow than anything else.

Cli.gs is probably another I may try since they do have a Ubiquity command and provide more flexibility in gathering statistics (multiple short links to the same site).

I found notlong.com interesting because the new url is created as a subdomain

Im playing around with smrl.tk. It uses .tk free domains to give people their own shortening service. Using a personalized url shortening service makes the shortened urls more trust-worthy imo.
